Battlestar Galactica

By Sonya Blade

Battlestar Galactica is undoubtedly one of the best shows on television today as well as when it first aired. The legacy of the show goes back to 1978 when it first aired and the story began. Today, the show stands as one of the most faithfully watched series on television. And, the show has this almost cult-like following for a reason - it's that good!

The show takes place in 7th millennium universe wherein the humans have left their native land of Kobol. Human life has been broken up into colonies among 12 planets in the solar system that are separated by vast amounts of space. Commander Adama, commands his crew through rough solar systems in search of the 13th hidden colony, ironically known as, Earth. Along the way, the crew encounters Cylons (arch enemies) that are bent on destroying the human race. So, these honorable men and women of the ship are to defend human civilizations and try to locate the missing colony of Earth.

Many folks love the show because it mixes so perfectly the genres of drama and science fiction. This perfect marriage of these genres makes for an almost soap opera like program for people who like science fiction. In fact many people who are not necessarily "trekkies" and sci-fi enthusiasts in the slightest watch the show because it is just that exciting!

What is even more fascinating is the fact that the people of Kobol and the other 12 colonial planets think of Earth (the 13th colony) as a myth; this aspect of the story makes it even more important and significant to those who follow the show.

There is no shortage of spectacular action and heartfelt drama in this series. Upon watching Battlestar Galactica for the first time, many viewers fall in love with the authentic cast and root for the fleet of Battlestar Galactica each subsequent episode. This show is essential for those who are fascinated by space and the origins of mankind! - 29967
