LG LCD Televisions VS. Plasma Television: And The Winner Is???

By Matthew Kerridge

Mostly everyone owns a television. Actually most households have more than one television. People are buying televisions larger and larger. The pictures and features are becoming more high tech. Conserving energy is a factor. Many people are looking for LG LCD televisions.

Large LCD televisions can range from thirteen inches to the world's largest at one hundred and eight inches. People have their preferences but mostly fall somewhere in the middle. Price range from ninety four dollars for a small set to a whopping fifty thousand for an eighty two inch flat panel display.

Presently there are two types on the market. They are the plasma television and the LCD television. The Plasma TV makes a picture using a gas that when filled with a lot of charged atoms and electrons smash together when the power is on. These systems are very large and thin. They have a superb picture but can be very expensive.

A flat panel system that has basically the same technology as the cell phone and computer monitor is the LCD television. Comprised of two layers of a glass like substance that are stuck together, this system has one layer coated with a special polymer and it holds individual crystals. Electricity current is send through the system and the crystals. The crystals either block or allow light to pass and therefore create the images.

A consumer can make an argument for both systems. The plasma system has a top notch contrast ratio with deeper colors. It is easier on the eyes. There is a better viewing angle and it has the same top quality picture from any viewing angle. There is not a dragging effect with tracking the motion on the screen. The system is more expensive.

Plasma is the best quality for watching sports or action movies. It is designed for long hours of viewing. However one disadvantage is that an average system is only good for viewing about one hundred thousand hours before the picture quality diminishes over time.

There are some advantages to purchasing a large LCD television instead of a large plasma television. The LCD television does not reflect images onto the screen and had super brightness. It has vivid color reproduction and is less likely to suffer from panel burning than the plasma. The LCD is a quality product for a person that watches all types of television such as news, current affairs and dramas.

There are many pros to buying a LCD television. Nowadays people like their television picture to be very large. LCDs are more cost effective and easier to mount than a plasma screen TV. - 29967
