The LG 42LH5000 - A First Look

By Malcolm Wagner

There has been a growing demand for affordable LCD tvs. LCD televisions are lighter than plasma televisions which makes them more attractive for placing on brackets on a wall. In answer to this demand manufacturers have introduced the LG 42LH5000 which provides users with a forty-two", LCD tv at an affordable cost. The 42LH5000 television is not as heavy as a plasma television of the same size. Therefore, it is more easily mounted on wall brackets. It has a black finish with a curvature that allows one to view it from any angle. It contains an invisible system so that one is not required to purchase optional theatre speakers.

3 HDMI inputs provide a smooth connection on the LG 42LH5000 and external ports are located in the front of the tv as well as the back to allow convenience and ease of use. The intelligent sensor system controlling a 1920x1080 pixel screen automatically adjusts the picture. This significantly reduces the energy costs of other types of flat screen tv.

The 200Hz engine of this tv allows it to calculate three frames of data memory for each single real frame. This allows the fluidity, motion, high picture quality, and adjustable backlight that makes tv viewable regardless of how much light is in a room.

The High Definition native resolution provides an 80, 000:1 contrast ratio. This, coupled with the 200Hz engine provides distinct edges on pictures from any angle. There are also image proportionate sensors to make wide screen viewing on the 42LH5000 more comfortable for viewers.

Some of the features found on the LG 42LH5000 that are not found on other televisions is the ability to play back MP3, JPEG, and other files and videos. This is accomplished with the secure digital carder reader that is included in the system. There is also a USB port which allows one to connect remotely to the tv. For BluRay playback the tv has come equipped with a 24p Cinema Real system.

There are extremely clear graphics and easy to read controls and instructions on the menu. The menu is also organized very well and has instructions embedded on setting up and using the remote control. For people who may have a problem understanding manuals for remote controls, the LG 42LH5000 has removed the necessity of the manual.

As with all flat screen tv the LG 42LH5000 suffers with the issue of glare. The screen of the flat screen reflects the smallest rays of light and can disturb viewers. A glare resistant film is available for the screens which will greatly reduce the glare. Researchers continue to work on these issue across the industry. The sensitivity of the flat screens makes it very difficult to add chemicals or processes that may disrupt the pixels.

When making a major electronic purchase it is important to discuss one's needs and requirements with a professional who knows the details and specifics of all of the products that are being considered. The LG 42LH5000 provides many features and functions that one may want at an affordable price. - 29967
