Season Predictions for the Golden State Warriors

The Golden State warriors had a major let down season in 08'-09' failing to win even 30 games, 29-53 overall. This was mostly due to the loss of Baron Davis.

Their defense the last two seasons has been one of the worst in the league - if not the worst. They can score when they want but don't play any defense and let teams back in games.

If one thing needs to change it's their defensive mentality, otherwise the Warriors will be the Phoenix Suns of old - a very exciting team but can't make critical stops when the game is on the line.

Stephen Jackson was the leading scorer on the Warriors in 08-'09' with 20 points per game followed by Jamal Crawford - who is not on the Warriors anymore.

F Cory Maggette is one of the better players on the team and should have another solid season. Being this is his 10th season he is the veteran that needs to keep the team focused all season long.

The Warriors play in the highly talented and strong Western Conference - in the West making the playoffs as the 8th seed will be a difficult task. If the warriors hope to play in late spring then they will need to improve on defense - no team that was last in scoring defense ever made the playoffs.

Monta Ellis is healthy, Andris Biedrins is ready for another season of basketball, and Stephen Jackson and Stephen Curry are both talented offensive players.

Coach Don Nelson likes the "run & gun" type offense but he even knows that to win games in the league they must attempt to play defense now and again. Nelson is second all time in career wins and within the next couple seasons he should break the mark set by Lenny Wilkins. - 29967

Indiana Pacers Danny Granger Breaks Out

The 2008-2009 basketball season brought us the breakout of a little known player to those not adamant about the NBA.

With Reggie Miller now gone the state of Indiana looks to Danny Granger to help create a perennial playoff team, once again like in the'90's.

The Pacers defense was one of the worst in the NBA giving up more then 106 points per game for 26th in the NBA.

The Pacers have a young team with a good upside. The defense was their death blow last season giving up more points then they could score. More emphasis needs to be put on defense; we know the team can score.

Guard T.J. Ford had one of his best seasons to date with scoring 15 points per game and 5 assists. If the Pacers ever expect to compete in the same division as the Cleveland Cavaliers, their defense must improve and improve fast.

The Pacers did draft former college player of the year Tyler Hansbrough - what impact he will have in his rookie year in unknown. What Hansbrough lacks in skill he makes up for it in hustle.

The Pacers lack a scoring big man. Mike Dunleavy averaged 15 points per game but at 6-9 he isn't a true center but more a forward. Roy Hibbert should have a better year then he did in 08'-09', as a rookie Hibbert averaged 7 points per game. If Hibbert can develop a more refined inside game he should be a force because at 7-2 he is one of the tallest players in the NBA.

The Pacers should win more then 36 games this upcoming season. The Pacers have a chance at the 8th or 7th seed even if everyone plays up to their potential and the defense improves. Granger should have an all-star season and be among the leaders in scoring once again. - 29967

Will Gordon and Villanueva Save the Detroit Pistons?

The Detroit Pistons had a very disappointing season in 08'-09'. They definitely didn't look like the Pistons of just a few seasons back.

The Pistons were the bench mark in the Eastern Conference - in 04' they upset the heavily favored Los Angeles Lakers. Many feel the Pistons could have one more championships but were living off their one championship win and didn't have the desire or passion anymore - whether that's true or not no one really knows. What we do know is the Pistons played well below their standards accumulating a 39-43 record - the Pistons going 4 games below .500 is unheard of.

The Pistons were 28th in scoring out of 30 NBA teams. This is why the Pistons went after Ben Gordon and Charlie Villanueva.

With a new season comes new hope for Pistons fans. The Pistons acquired potential all stars in Ben Gordon and Charlie Villanueva who both are coming off their best season of their young careers.

The Pistons should have new life to them this season and should at least contend, if not more. Ben Gordon made his money in his playoff performance against the Boston Celtics - whether not resigning with the Chicago Bulls was a mistake or not, this should play out over this season.

This is the year nobody really knows what they will see from the Detroit Pistons. When teams get new faces people automatically assume the team will improve, that doesn't always happen. Yes, the Detroit Pistons are a playoff team but can they compete with Boston? Cleveland? Orlando? The Pistons hope Rodney Stuckey is their franchise point guard for years to come. The Pistons still have Richard Hamilton and Tayshaun Prince who have many playoff game experience.

One player who will need to average more in both rebounds and points is C Chris Wilcox. Wilcox has been on a few teams now since his career started in 2002, maybe Detroit is where he can finally shine as a player and contribute a good deal.

This season for the Detroit Pistons will be very interesting because when people speak about the front runners in the East the pistons aren't mentioned. We will see how the new acquisitions work out. - 29967

When a player averages 35 points per game in the playoffs and the team still loses, something is definitely wrong.

Shaguille O'Neal is suppose to be the player to fill the void the Cavs had last season in the playoffs, a scoring threat besides Lebron James. Shag can't score 30 points per game anymore but if he gives the cavs 17-18 points per game and 8-9 rebounds, Cavs fans will take that.

It's a new season now, with the disappointing loss behind them the Cavs are ready to start their championship run. The Cavs have now the most dominant big man in league history, Shaguille O'Neal.

Unfortunately, the team's run was spoiled by the Orlando Magic. This left Cleveland fans wondering if Dwight Howard and the Magic had the Cavs' number, and what could be done about this.

Surely, the team was lacking in the big man department. Enter Shaquille O'Neal. The Cavs now enjoy the presence of the big man on their roster, and will look to use his physical prowess and playoff experience to bring home an NBA title.

The Mavericks have had an extremely eventful off season, highlighted by some big name signings that may have a profound impact on the team.

The Western Conference is loaded with very good teams and winning the West will prove to be very difficult for the Mavs. Dirk can't win games by himself all the time and will need even more help from players like Jason Terry, Josh Howard and newly acquired Shawn Marion.

It seems as if the Mavs can score plenty of points now - but can they stop anyone on defense. To win games in the playoffs teams must stop opposing teams in critical situations; the Mavs do not have a shut down type player. Opposing teams scoring average was in the middle of the league at 15th.

Shawn Marion has been on a few teams as of late but hopefully he can find success on the Mavs. Marion is a very good player who should give the Mavs another scoring threat. This will help open things up for Dirk.

The final difference is that with LED lighting, television sets can be made much thinner than the three inch deep sets made possible with LCD technology. Head Coach Larry Brown is an all-time great coach who has turned around teams before and made them playoff worthy - this could be Brown's toughest challenge to date.

A young basketball team typically does not know how to win close games and don't do well on the road - this should change to a degree this season.

With newly acquired center Tyson Chandler, the Charlotte Bobcats have a big presence in the middle, capable of pulling down boards. Hopefully for the Bobcats sake, Chandler can get over the fact he didn't want to be in Charlotte. One bad attitude never helps!

One of the questions the Bobcats will have to answer is who is their go-to man. When the game is on the line who will the Bobcats give the ball to in order to make something happen.

F Gerald Wallace averaged nearly 17 points per game last season and will need to continue to do so this season.

The Bobcats have improved every season since they have been in the league, 2004. Their lowest win total was 15 games but those days should be well past the franchise. Tennessee Titans Can't Find a W

What has become of the mighty Tennessee Titans. This is a team that opened up the season undefeated through the first two months of the NFL season in 2008.

The Titans dominated their competition during the 2008 regular season. If my memory serves me right, I think they won their first 10 games before losing one in November. This is the kind of Tennessee Titans football that I'm used to seeing, and I'm stunned to see that they've dropped their first two to open the season.

Many thought this was a Super Bowl team last season. I think I thought so myself. They made a few changes during the off-season that seemed positive.

Having acquired Nate Washington and a few other valuable pieces, many fans were hoping this would be enough to withstand the loss of Albert Haynesworth. Anytime you lose a player as valuable as Haynesworth it will definitely show, however nobody would have expected it to show this much.

In week 1, the Titans faced a difficult challenge in visiting the Pittsburgh Steelers in Pittsburgh. Having to play the defending champions at their own field on opening night is a huge challenge in and of itself, but the Titans handled the challenge well, nearly coming away with a win against the Steelers.

With the loss of DT Albert Haynesworth, the Titans defense may not be as strong as it once was but they still have defensive skill players such as Cortland Finnegan, Chris Hope, Keith Bulluck, and Nick Harper.

It is hard to believe that a team coached by Jeff Fisher will continue to play this way for an entire NFL season.

Since the Titans play in the same division as the Jacksonville Jaguars and Houston Texans, hopefully they can get some "easy" wins against them and other below average teams to finish the season with a respectable record. Boston Celtics, Another Title in 09-10?

The Boston Celtics are coming off a disappointing 7 game series loss to the Orlando Magic in the second round of the 09' playoffs. All things consider, the Celtics should be pleased with their playoff run given they didn't have team leader Kevin Garnett.

After one of the most exciting playoffs series, first round or not, against the Chicago Bulls the Celtics didn't have enough to put away the Orlando Magic. It was a shame the Celtics didn't have the opportunity to defend their 08' championship at full strength.

With that said, the Boston Celtics will look to exact revenge on the Magic in 2009-2010. With a healthy Kevin Garnett at their disposal, the team will look to pick up right where it left off after it won an NBA title during the 2007-2008 basketball season.

Essentially everyone from last year will be back in action. The big three (Garnett, Pierce, Allen) are all back in tow, and Rajon Rondo, Leon Powe, Glen Davis, and the rest of the supporting cast are there as well. Out is Stephon Marbury, which may in fact be a good thing for the team.

Rasheed Wallace joins the Celtics after a disappointing season with the Detroit Pistons. This might also be one of the last seasons Rasheed Wallace has a chance to win a NBA title - he is 35 years old and in NBA years that's much older.

In is Rasheed Wallace. A seasoned veteran with playoff experience and enough talent to still play some highly effective basketball, Sheed will add a much needed lift to the Celtics, who will be forced to compete with a competitive set of teams.
